Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Untitled (Loverboy).
Probably my favorite artist, here is another one of his works that really touches me. I posted about one of his pieces here, and I think the two are closely related. Both are sculptures that I think capture the intangibles of love. Perfectly Lovers is about the connectedness of two people. And Loverboy is about knowing your in love. It’s the feeling that swells inside of you. Knowing that it’s there, even though you can’t see it. And it is captured just by hanging a curtain in front of a window. Really quite beautiful. The choice of fabric also makes me think the sculpture is about the gentleness of love, the tenderness of sharing a moment with the one you love. This work is incredible sensual in comparison to some of his other pieces. Lovely.
